Sports Round Up

AIMS Games

During week 8 of Term 3, six Sancta Maria Sports teams travelled to Tauranga to participate in the AIMS Games which is held every year for students in Year 7&8. The weeklong competition attracts teams from all over New Zealand and other Pacific Islands.

For Sancta Maria College this was the biggest year ever for AIMS with over 70 students participating and proudly representing SMC in Rugby Sevens, Netball, Boys & Girls Football, Boys & Girls Basketball, Badminton, Orienteering and Swimming.

With many great results our students were also consistently applauded for the great sportsmanship on and off the playing grounds. The week provided students with some great memories and friendships that will stay with them for life.

A huge thanks to all coaches, managers and teachers that were involved in the build-up and during the competition.

Tournament Week
After a successful Auckland Netball season, our Premier Girls Netball Team went on to compete in the Upper North Island Secondary Schools Competition (UNISS). UNISS as a competition has 128 teams from all over Upper North Island and this year it was played at Waitakere Netball Centre. Our girls moved into camp for 5 nights to focus and participate to their true potential for this tournament.

After 5 days of tough competition and with some amazing results in a rebuilding year, we finished 29th in B Grade, which is a very creditable outcome for our hardworking team.

A huge thanks to coaches, managers and parents that assisted the team throughout the season and the tournament week. It wouldn’t be possible without your assistance.
