At Sancta Maria College, the well-being and overall care of our students continue to be a top priority.
This year, we’ve been trialing well-being check-ins using an online platform called Bloum. This platform is based on the ARACY framework, which focuses on young adults. The data collected is confidential to the student and their trusted adults at school. As a school, we have access to whole cohort data broken down by year levels, gender, and more. This allows us to provide targeted interventions and support.
Our data-driven approach is helping us develop what we call the “Culture of Care.” We aim to support our students holistically while keeping our Catholic Character and school values at the heart of our educational purpose. We’ve also started professional development for our staff to help them understand and apply this approach in their classrooms, especially in the Navigation curriculum area. This has been valuable in preparing our students for the Derived Grade Exams, which can be quite stressful for our senior students.
In line with our holistic approach, our Year 7 to 10 students recently participated in a Well-Being Walk around Barry Curtis Park. It was a fun event for both staff and students, and we received very positive feedback. The short 25-minute walk took place during Navigation time and was a great way to promote well-being.
Given the pressures on our young people today, we also hosted an external provider who gave an insightful talk about vaping. The 45-minute session, held during Navigation time, helped our students understand the impact of vaping on their bodies and society. It also addressed some common myths versus facts, and our students responded positively.
Thank you for your continued support in nurturing the well-being of our students.
