Academic Update

We are very proud of our two kaikōrero who represented our kura at the regional Te Whaitua o Uenuku Ngā Manu Kōrero Speech Competition, hosted by Te Kura Māori o Ngā Tapuwae on Thursday 30 April and Friday 1 May. Ngā Manu Kōrero is a prestigious national secondary schools speech competition that celebrates excellence in public speaking and promotes fluency in both te reo Māori and English.

Jordana Kingi competed in the Sir Turi Carroll Junior English section with her kōrero ‘The Pressure to Fit In’, while Khloe Wakefield spoke in the Korimako Senior English section with her prepared kōrero ‘Why Should I Have to Justify to You That I Am Māori Enough?’ as well as a three minute impromptu speech that ‘Haka is a Sport’. Both students were eloquent speakers who delivered well-prepared kōrero to an exceptional standard, representing their whānau and our kura with pride. It was a privilege to be amongst such talented rangatahi, with a high calibre of speakers sharing powerful kōrero grounded in te ao Māori. We look forward to returning next year to continue being part of this inspiring kaupapa.

We extend our sincere thanks to our ākonga who supported with waiata tautoko, to our whānau who attended to show their support and to our hosts for their organisation and generous manaakitanga throughout the event.
