We are pleased to share some very encouraging attendance data from our Term 2 Every Day Matters Ministry report.
Our school goal is for 80% of our students to attend school more than 90% of the time. In Term 2, 84% of our students achieved regular attendance, meaning we are currently above our goal. This is an encouraging result and reflects the collective efforts of staff, whānau and students in keeping attendance visible and valued.
This also indicates strong progress when compared with previous data. Our regular attendance was 84% in Term 2 2026, compared with 86% in Term 1 2026 and 70% in Term 2 2025. While we have dipped slightly from Term 1, we remain well ahead of the same time last year, which is an acknowledgement of our collective efforts.
A few key highlights from the report:
- 892 students attended school regularly in Term 2.
- Our attendance categories were: 84% regular attendance, 11% irregular absence, 3% moderate absence, and 2% chronic absence.
- Year 7 had the highest proportion of regular attendance at 92%.
- Year 10 had the highest proportion of chronic absence at 3%.
- Our strongest attendance day was Thursday at 95%, with Friday still strong at 93%.
- The main reason for absence was illness/medical absence at 72%, followed by holiday absence at 10%. The holiday absence is a concern.
To help us stay above our 80% goal, these are some of the simple things we can continue to do well:
- Keep attendance visible in our daily conversations — especially with students who are beginning to drift into irregular attendance.
- Follow up early and positively when patterns of absence emerge, particularly before they become entrenched.
- Continue reinforcing the message that every day matters, and that regular attendance supports learning, wellbeing, routine and connection.
These results show that our shared focus is making a real difference. Let’s keep encouraging our students to be present, engaged and connected.
