Tournament Week results

Our Premier Boys have been crowned Basketball New Zealand Northern Regional Cup Champions!
Competing across three days in Pukekohe, our boys progressed through pool play undefeated, despite a tough battle against Te Haikura a Kiwa (James Cook High School) to clinch a Top 4 berth. Our team shut down Kaitaia College’s attack in the semi, securing a place in the grand final against Rutherford College.

Spurred on by a rapturous crowd of whānau and friends, our boys pulled ahead in the second half to triumph 97-61. This was a great way to cap off our eight Year 13s’ basketball journeys at Sancta Maria College.  Thank you to coaches Ray & Marco, and managers Gian & Shona, for making this season and tournament a success.
Additional Congratulations to our referee representative, Ethan Siao (class of ’22) who was appointed to officiate the Girls’ grand final at the tournament.
XI GIRLS FOOTBALL
Coached by Matt Schollum, our 1st XI Girls Football team placed 21st in the Kathy Seaward tournament, last week. This is a great effort from a very young, developing team. Congratulations to Siobhan O’Rourke and Sammie Bongiovanni, who were our players of the tournament, and Layan Alboutros, who played well in goal. We are proud of the team’s achievement.
XI BOYS FOOTBALL
Coached by Kevin McAfee and managed by Kieran Gutry, our 1st XI Football boys were placed 18th in Rex Dawkins Tournament. Highlights included some good wins over Elim and Papatoetoe High School. Congratulations to Cesar Garcia Soto our player of the tournament and well done to our junior players who gained valuable experience from the tournament: Keeton Norton-Tomkies, Daniel Finnegan and Matthew Bastien. We are proud of the team’s achievement.
PREMIER NETBALL
Coached by Shalom Danielson-Leota and managed by Makayla Samaeli, our Premier Netball team were placed 7th in C-grade at UNISS (Upper North Island Secondary School Netball). With over 128 teams competing, our team performed with great skill and strength, producing some great wins across the five-day tournament.
Stand out performance from Kaia Perham-Hayes, and special mention to Sylvia Leota, a Year 11 student who played 390 minutes out of 400 across the tournament. We are proud of the team’s achievement.
AIMS Games

With over 14,000 athletes from over 400 schools, the 2026 AIMS Games had more athletes take part than the 2024 Paris Olympics did.  Two individual competitors and three teams represented Sancta Maria College at AIMS Games this year.

  • Anthony Xu placed 9th out of 95 competitors in the Year 8 Boys Orienteering sprint.
  • Tiffany Chen had multiple swim races, but her best result was 11th out of 114 swimmers in the 12y/o Girls 100m freestyle.

3×3 Basketball boys competed over the first weekend and placed 8th out of 40 teams, missing out on the Top 6 by 1 point against Otumoetai.

Our Netball girls were placed into C Grade where they finished 7th (71st overall from 132 teams). Their final game finished in an exciting come-from-behind win in the last quarter against Wellsford.

5-aside Basketball boys were strong through pool play and beat Sacred Heart to qualify for the Top 16. They then had an absolute nail-biter against St Peter’s which went to overtime. Braydon Ropati scored the winning basket to advance us to 8th place from 84 teams. This was our best ever team result at AIMS Games.
