Enviro Group Update

On 29 August, Kathrina, Cameron, Tina and Dr Laux attended the annual Green Jam Conference at Auckland Zoo where they joined other secondary schools to share their journey as an Enviroschool. Students were able to learn about the sustainable ways that Auckland Zoo and Western Spring College students and staff are adopting to make a difference to the damage that climate change is causing. Students and teachers learnt about how to use indigenous natural resources to promote the awareness of human impact on Papatuanuka. They also extended their leadership skills by learning more effective strategies about how to increase people’s interest in climate change issues.

Also, on 31 August, Sancta Maria held its ‘Share to Care’ event, when students had the opportunity to come and get clothes donated by the school community. This event aimed to reduce landfill waste created by clothing and to share the love to those who can’t afford new fashionable clothes.

On 1 September, Emily Locke received a reusable drink bottle for her entry into the July/August plastic free art competition.

Finally, students have continued to gather every Monday to paint recycled jars to be donated to the Totara Hospice for Christmas presents.
