Environmental Matters

In the middle of term 3, we invited Captain Hayden from Sea Cleaners to accept the money we had raised through Special Character during our last non-uniform day. Sea Cleaners is a not-for-profit organisation with a vision to keep our oceans, seas and rivers free from rubbish. Earlier in the year, nine Year 13 students spent the day with Sea Cleaners collecting rubbish along the waterways.  Click this link to read all about their day.

After hearing that they rely solely on donations, Emilie-Jean immediately spear-headed into action – she said, “we need to donate.” Mr Tamayo produced an oversized cheque for $1000.00 to present to Captain Hayden, who spoke briefly of the feeling of respect and positivity from the students as he entered the assembly space and how grateful he was for our donation. He ended his talk reminding students that just picking up one piece of rubbish a day will help the storm water drains and waterways remain clear.
