Junior School Update

The start of 2025 with our new Year 7 students has been wonderful, with the excitement of welcoming new whanau into our Sancta Maria College community.

The Year 7 ‘Meet the Teachers’ evening was a success with about 150 parents turning up to the event. Parents had the opportunity to ask questions, and gain insight into the curriculum, classroom expectations and co-curricular activities for the year ahead. The evening was filled with positive energy, as both parents and staff expressed excitement for the year, creating a strong foundation for ongoing communication and partnership between home and school. We also welcomed the returning students who have been very enthusiastic about coming back to school.

All students at Sancta Maria College are grouped into four houses (Akaroa, Hokianga, Kororāreka and Waitematā), and each student is assigned to a Navigation Group – Junior Navigation (Year 7-10) and Senior Navigation (Year 11-13). These groups are led by a ‘Kaiurungi’ who will mentor and assist students with academic tracking, goal setting as well as other life skills learning. These areas will all contribute towards developing our Special Character through the act of service.

Throughout the year, there are house assemblies and events beginning with Athletics Day in Week 4 that will help uplift community spirit and foster strong relationships between students and teachers.

We look forward to an incredible year ahead!

Blessings,
Carol Du-Blom and Makayla Samaeli
Acting Assistant Principal
