Kia ora and warm greetings,
I am honoured to join the supportive community of Sancta Maria College as the new Deputy Principal overseeing Junior Curriculum. It is a privilege to become part of this vibrant, faith-filled community.
I am originally from the beautiful islands of Fiji and moved to New Zealand about 23 years ago and have lived in Auckland for all of that time. I was a Deputy Principal at Mission Heights Junior College prior to joining Sancta Maria College at the start of Term 2. I bring a deep commitment to nurturing the academic and personal growth of every akonga. As teachers of young people, it has never been more critical to nurture active global citizens who are critical thinkers and ethical decision-makers.
My journey in education has been shaped by a belief in the power of strong relationships, inclusive learning environments, and the belief that there is greatness in every learner. In the short four weeks I have seen amazingly talented students at our In the Heights musical, in aroha of these young people during the Wellbeing Week, and the competitive spirit during the numerous sporting fixtures.
As Deputy Principal, I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, students, and of course, you—the parents and caregivers—who play such an essential role in your children’s lives and in the life of our school. I am especially eager to listen, learn, and build meaningful connections within this community. It was a pleasure to meet some of you during our recent parent/teacher interviews earlier this term.
Our junior students have been involved in many in and out of school learning activities this term; including our school production trip, zoo & Stardome trips, kids lit, waka ama trip, whole school cross country, and visiting author Graci Kim. We look forward to further quality enhanced learning opportunities and of course our Feast Day Mass next week. Please follow our Facebook or Instagram pages to keep abreast of all activities.
Please feel free to introduce yourself if we cross paths. I look forward to meeting many of you in the coming weeks.
Ngā mihi nui
Reshmika Lal
