Music Matters

Term 2 kicks off a very busy season of events for the Music department who have been madly practicing and polishing their performances for the school production, Mamma Mia!  Thank you to all the students and Mr. Humphries for your hours of work perfecting every musical note.  You certainly sound amazing.

Rock Quest begins on Saturday 13 May with the band heats ‘rocking the roof off’ at Auckland Girls’ Grammar – we wish Modesty Blaise, The Jazz Ducks and Cesura all the best.  Click this link to find out the order of play for this event.

Classics at 12 soon follows, taking place at Uxbridge Centre in Howick on Friday 19 May.  Classics at 12 is a wonderful opportunity for our Symphonia, Senior Choir, Stage Band, Big Band and jazz combos to perform in front of an audience – for some this is their first occasion playing in front of a crowd.

Tangata Beats is on the Saturday following Rock Quest, 20 May, Alofa Lahi (Aloyze Tafu, Marina Jones, Trinity Tuineau and Yalaina Tubu) will play at Tangata Beats. It will again be at Auckland Girls’ Grammar School and see our girls fly the Pasifika flag with their music.

Near the end of the month, some of our budding musicians have another wonderful opportunity to attend the APO Discovery concert at Auckland Town Hall.  It is a particularly special event in the Music department’s calendar as it will feature both our Senior and Festival Choirs as part of a mass choir who will perform a Māori language version of Six60’s ‘Don’t Forget Your Roots’ on stage with the APO.  We wish them and all our students well in their performances.

June continues to be another busy month for our students – more details on events coming soon.
