Managing National Assessment (MNA) Review
During Term 2, the MNA Review took place.  There are three components that are reviewed:

  • External moderation of the school’s internal assessment.
  • A check on the school’s overall assessment systems.
  • A check on specific aspects of assessment systems.

The Review found that the school is effectively meeting the requirements, and has highly effective assessment systems and practices for national qualifications.

The Review identified that our school’s own review mechanisms allow us to identify and respond to most issues and there are no significant issues with the school’s management of national assessment found.  The full report can be found by clicking the following link Final MNA 491 Sancta Maria College

Celebrating The Feast of the Visitation Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral
In the year of the 20th Anniversary of Sancta Maria College and at the end of our Special Character week, we undertook a visit to St Patrick’s Cathedral in central Auckland to celebrate The Feast of the Visitation Mass.

Bishop Stephen Lowe, the 12th Bishop of Auckland presided our Feast of the Visitation Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral, assisted by Fr Larry Rustia our school Chaplain.  The entire school travelled to central Auckland by coach which was a logistical challenge!  Students from several parishes (St Mark’s, St Luke’s, St Anne’s, St Elias, St Mary’s, St Addai Chaldean and the Korean Catholic Church), were commissioned Ministers of the Eucharist and Lectors during the Mass.  Student leaders actively participated in all aspects of our mass celebration making it special and unique for our school.

An event of this size is reliant on many others to assist, and we give thanks to Mr Tamayo, Mrs Oliver, Mrs Maddison, Mr Vickers, Mrs Heffernan, Mrs Lewis and the many others involved to make this event successful and memorable for us.  Thank for your support in the lead-up and on the day.

Welcome Mr Lawrence Naicker
In the last week of term, we welcomed back Mr Naicker who has been a member of the Senior Leadership Team at Manurewa High School for almost 8 years.  Before this time, Mr Naicker was Head of Department for Mathematics & Statistics at Sancta Maria College.  He now joins the Senior Leadership Team with various responsibilities that include Pastoral Care & Wellbeing and oversight of Digital Technologies.  Please click the following link to read a little more about Mr Naicker https://smcn.school.buzz/meet-our-new-assistant-principal/

Staff Changes
At the end the term, we said farewell to some staff.  We especially honoured longer serving members of staff, gave recognition and thanked all for the contribution each has made to our school community during their time with us and we wish them well in the future.

  • Mr Ian Vickers (Mathematics & Statistics) moves to Macleans College
  • Mrs Ghazala Mohammed (Chemistry) moves to ACG, Karaka
  • Mrs Madwhi Mistry (Years 7 & 8) moves to Queensland, Australia
  • Mrs Monique Fautuaali’i Taia (Religious Education) moves to Reremoana Primary School.

Mānawatia a Matariki
As a college community we enjoyed celebrating Matariki.  The highlight of this year’s celebration was our inaugural Matariki Dinner held at school and where we showcased the immense talent in our kapa haka roopu.  The celebration was an opportunity to embrace the theme for this year ‘Mataraki Heri Kai’ by gathering together with whānau for a beautifully prepared feast.

This celebration event could not have taken place without the support of many people to make it the success it was.  We especially acknowledge Mrs Averil Hiddleston our Te Pou Arataki and many staff and whanau volunteers involved.

Tēnā rawa atu koutou, a big thank you to our amazing sponsors who donated kai and raffle/silent auction prizes for our Matariki Dinner Fundraiser.
