Sports Round Up

Sancta Maria College Sports have had a busy winter season with a number of our teams wrapping up – our basketball, football, hockey, netball and rugby teams are all about to complete their training season.  Congratulations to all our teams who trained hard, played well and enjoyed the season.  Some notable results from this term include:

  • Our 1st XI Girls Hockey team finishing 5th equal in the B Grade Championships.
  • Our U15 Boys Hockey team winning the U15C grade.
  • Both the U17 Boys and U17 Girls Basketball teams finishing in the top two for the Counties Manukau Zone and qualifying for the Auckland Championships Playoffs.
The U17 Girls Basketball team went on to win their playoffs and progressing to the semi-finals, finishing in the top four in Auckland.
  • Our 5th Grade Rugby team qualifying for the final of Auckland 5th Grade 5C.
  • Several of our netball teams have qualified for the finals of their grades at Howick Pakuranga Netball Centre (playoff times and dates are yet to be confirmed).

Winter Tournament
During Winter Tournament Week (Monday 29 August – Friday 2 September) our school will be represented by our Premier Netball team and 1st XI Girls Hockey team at their respective Upper North Island Tournaments. Both tournaments are being held locally, at Howick Pakuranga Netball Centre and Lloyd Elsmore Park Hockey turf, so our teams are looking forward to seeing their families, friends and teachers on the sidelines.

AIMS Games
The AIMS Games will be held in Tauranga between Sunday 4 – Friday 9 September. Sancta Maria College will be represented by our Y7/8 Spartans Basketball team, 8A Netball team, as well as individuals Cara Cozo (gymnastics), Olivia Joseph (badminton), Blake Pennington (gymnastics) and Fiona Sheng (swimming).

Rotorua Netball Tournament
Our Senior B, 10A, 9A, 8B and 7A Netball teams head to Rotorua for the Kurangaituku Netball Tournament for the weekend of September 10 – 11. This concludes a very busy few weeks for Sancta Maria College Sport.

We are thrilled to see the return of these major events after two years of cancellations and wish all our athletes, officials and supporters the best of luck for their competitions.
