House System in more detail
As a College, we want to foster stronger house affiliation and connection within houses and we want all members of the College to feel connected to their house and know its significance to the school. This is reflected in the House Prefect appointments for 2023, as well as looking at how we can build a strong foundation (a sense of whanaungatanga and turangawaewae). We also want to build relationships through the year levels and across the school. As a result, we will be operating on a three-week cycle of assemblies: full school, house and year level, as per the cycle below:
Week 1 – Full School Assembly – Tuesday
Week 2 – House Assembly
Monday – Akaroa
Tuesday – Hokianga
Wednesday – Kororāreka
Thursday – Waitematā
Week 3 – Year level assemblies
In addition to assemblies, we are also wanting to embed the house system within any whole school activities, like we did at Athletics Day, so that each student has the opportunity to display their house colours and compete within houses as well as individually.
