Academic Update

Dux calculations
The DUX award calculation has been changed this year to reflect the need for students to give their best throughout the whole year, including in their final examinations at the end of the year (in November).  The Dux award should reflect being the top academic student of the entire student cohort. It is the epitome of academic excellence at a school.

The Dux calculation will now be based on Internals, November Externals, and Scholarship examinations. This allows objective clarity for all students.

As a result, Dux will be award in early February (from the results of the previous year) at the Academic Honours Assembly, once all results are confirmed.

Use of the UoA rank score formula (4,3,2) for a student’s top 80 achievement standard credits (4 = Ex, 3 = M, 2 = A); maximum top score of 320 points will be used.

  • Scholarship achievement: 10 additional credits per subject will be used.
  • Outstanding Scholarship achievement: 15 additional credits per subject will be used.
  • Scholarship grades from the previous year can be added and used.  When multiple students have the same points, 1st place in subject/s will be included.

In addition, there will be a Dux prize of $1000 awarded and $350 to the Proximate accessit.

Example:

  • 80 x Level 3 Excellence credits: = 320 points
  • 2025 Chemistry scholarship:   = 10 points
  • 2026 Calculus outstanding scholarship: = 15 points
  • TOTAL = 345 points
