Curriculum Update
In November, our staff dedicated time to develop a Connected Curriculum that strengthens how we teach and learn at Sancta Maria College. This approach connects different subjects, such as English, PE & Health, Mathematics, Religious Education, Science, and Social Studies, ensuring that what students learn in one area is linked to what they learn in others. By emphasising the connections across subjects, we aim to create a more integrated learning experience that is engaging and relevant. This approach is supported by the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum (Te Mātaiaho), which encourages us to tailor learning experiences to each student’s needs, backgrounds, and interests.
Our curriculum is designed to provide a holistic, broad education, with teachers collaborating to make learning more meaningful for students. Students will still cover the same subjects but with a stronger focus on real-world connections, where learning is not confined to one area but linked across multiple disciplines. This helps deepen their understanding and prepares them for future learning. Through regular assessment and tailored teaching methods, we aim to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

EOTC Update
Term 4 has been packed with memorable experiences for Years 7-10, especially during our Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) week. These activities enrich classroom learning and help build self-confidence, social skills, and lasting memories.
- Year 7 students explored Ambury Park, Māngere Mountain, and the Maritime Museum.
- Year 8s had an exciting camp at YMCA Camp Adair in Hunua, where they stepped out of their comfort zones and showed resilience in a variety of activities.
- Year 9 students experienced local history with trips to Rangiriri Pā, Tōtara Point, Duder Regional Park, and even the movies! These activities tied directly into their learning of Aotearoa NZ history.
- Year 10s enjoyed a week at Ngāruawāhia Christian Youth Camp, developing strong bonds as a year group through fun and teamwork.
A huge thank you to all the families for supporting their children in these experiences, and to our dedicated staff for making them possible!
