Principal’s Message

Matthew 28:5-6 But the angel said to the woman, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said”.

Tēnā koutou,
As we come to the end of a busy term, I want to acknowledge and thank everyone for your commitment to our school and learning environment.

To our students, well done on your commitment to your learning, assessments, co-curricular activities, and school life. Our students take their learning seriously at Sancta Maria College and it is so pleasing to see our young people making the most of the learning opportunities offered to them inside and outside the classroom.

The involvement of students in co-curricular activities throughout Term 1, like our Jazz and performing arts programme, our Volleyball programme, our Young Vinnies service programme and our cultural performance groups, has been very impressive.  I am also continually impressed with the large turn-out of students at our voluntary Wednesday lunchtime school Masses.

To our staff, thank you for your hard work in teaching our students, preparing lessons, mentoring students and providing a wealth of opportunities which allow our young people to flourish.

And to our parent and care giver community, thank you for supporting and nurturing our young people. When we all work together, our young people can thrive.

Next term will be just as busy as Term 1. Our winter sports season begins in earnest; the holiday period is a good time to check that players have the correct sports uniform and are ready to represent themselves and our school in a positive and committed way. Click this link for our uniform requirements – please click this link for our sports code of conduct.

We are still looking for keen parents and adult volunteers to help manage, coach or transport teams. Please contact our Director of Sport Charlotte McKell, if you can help in anyway at sport@sanctamaria.school.nz

Student reports are issued on Thursday afternoon – these reports give an indication of work ethic and learning attitudes from Term 1. Please discuss these reports with your children. Parent-Teacher interviews take place early in Term 2; this is a great time to meet your children’s teachers in person and to discuss student progress and strategies to improve learning and understanding.  These can be booked directly, using the School Bridge app from Thursday 2 April – booking information will be sent out with the reports.

I hope that everyone has a restful holiday over the term break. I have reminded our students to take a break from their devices, read a book, and connect in-person with family and friends.

I wish you all a happy Easter as we celebrate the foundation of our faith, the victory of life over death, and the redemptive message of Jesus Christ.

Kind regards, and may faith be our compass as we prepare for Easter.

Nga mihi,
Andrew Mackenzie
Principal
