Principal’s Message

Kia ora Kātoa,

It has been an honour to celebrate the remarkable achievements at the recent Senior Academic Prizegiving, the Recognition Awards Assembly, and Sports Awards ceremonies.  Thank you to all the families who were able to celebrate student achievements with us.  Please click on the following link to our student-led News Centre as all our award winners have been officially recognised here Latest News – Sancta Maria College

Thanksgiving Mass
We also recognise that for Year 13, it is the end of their uniquely personal school journey and during this time it has been a purpose-driven exploration of their own potential.

It was a pleasure to celebrate the growth and accomplishments that this journey has brought.  We were grateful for the clergy attending from St Mark’s (Fr Sherwin), Our Lady Star of the Sea (Fr Terry), St Annes (Fr Kevin) and St Lukes (Fr Larry) who celebrated our Thanksgiving Mass with us, as each leaver also received a St Christopher Medal.

Senior students are now sitting NCEA external and scholarship exams, and we wish them all the very best.

International students graduating this year have completed their schooling requirements and a graduation luncheon was held.  We wish all international students well as they move on to Tertiary education or return to their home country.

At the recent Teacher Only Day, in collaboration with teaching staff, we spent quality time on aligning our connected curriculum so that it reflects our ‘Purpose Curriculum’ that is coherent and makes meaningful links within and across Learning Areas.

It will also facilitate smooth transitions and open pathways for continued learning.  This is, of course, underpinned by our Catholic Character.

The term ‘connected’ in our curriculum signifies multiple strategies:  creating authentic learning contexts, fostering collaborative relationships between teachers and departments and embracing universal design for learning.

Louise Moore,
Tumuaki/Principal
