A message from Warren Brabant: BOT Chairman
At the most recent board meeting (28 March) we thanked Adrian Vargas (right) for his contribution to the Board as the student representative, especially for agreeing to extend his term after the elections were delayed by the lockdown last year. Adrian has reported each month on student successes, activities and events in all areas of school life and he has contributed to discussions and decisions. We wish Adrian all the best for the remainder of his time at the College and his Prefect leadership role this year.
Thank you to all the student candidates who have put their names forward to be considered for student representative, replacing Adrian on the Board of Trustees. SMC has consistently enjoyed highly capable and motivated student representative trustees, and we are pleased to see this tradition continue.
The Board also extends congratulations to Thomas Pereira (left) who was appointed to the Board of Trustees recently. Thomas is a Bishop’s Proprietor and serves on the Special Character Committee. Thomas is highly regarded in the St Luke’s Parish where he gives willingly of his time on the Liturgy Committee. Thomas fills the position that Amelia Chambers had on the Board after a number of years’ service.
Shade Cover Project
The Board are very pleased with progress of the Shading Project that is a current focus. Stage 1 has seen the installation of the shade sails located next to three blocks (St Anne, St Francis and St Dominic Blocks). These are striking and provide necessary shade for students. More tables and seating will be investigated for under the St Francis block shade area in the future. Options are also being investigated for the Amphitheatre area, a further stage for shade. Students are enjoying the new shaded areas and we are excited to bring you more updates as the Shading Project progresses throughout the year.
