During the Easter break, some of Sancta Maria College’s talented musicians attended the Tauranga Jazz Festival. This festival is the longest running Jazz festival in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Tauranga Jazz Festival is a hugely popular event that showcases international quality jazz. Festival goers enjoy many special performances as well as soaking up the atmosphere at the ever-popular Jazz Village.
Also performing were the top jazz bands and combos of New Zealand secondary schools in the 43rd Annual National Youth Jazz Competition. Thomas Cho entered both of Sancta Maria College’s premier Jazz Combos into the festival with outstanding results! Both the ‘Fantails’ and the ‘Keas’ took out Gold awards. The Fantails also won the Dennis Huggard Trophy for the best first year performance band.
A huge congratulations to our talented jazz musicians and to Thomas Cho who has guided these students to be the best that they can be.
