Music Matters

Congratulations to Cesura who made a glorious racket at the Manukau finals of Rockquest on Friday 16 June.  Not only did they reach the finals, but Sean Van Tiel (the band’s bass player and singer) won an award for Best Musicianship.  An awesome achievement, as it is awarded for stage presence.  Keep on rocking, boys!

Our Choir performs at the Big Sing

A further congratulations to those students who performed in the Big Sing on Tuesday 20 June 2023 – the choir sung their hearts out in the Town Hall and certainly did themselves and the school proud.

Thank you to the Music Department and Mrs. Hutchings for all your hard work to make this day special for the choir.

Please see Mr. Gibbs if you are interested in auditioning for the school choir as we always welcome new singers.

Combined Concert with Botany Downs Secondary College Jazz Band and our very own Symphonia, Big Band, Concert Band, Stage Band and Festival Orchestra on Thursday 22 June – the audience thoroughly enjoyed a set of material which is being prepared for the upcoming KBB Festival.  Thank you to Mr. Arthur and Mr. Gibbs for organising yet another night to remember.

Three members of the Auckland Phiharmonia Orchestra came into our school over the weekend of 24 & 25 June to give our Symphonia players a mentoring session, helping them prepare their repertoire for the KBB Festival in August.  Thank you to Katherine Hebley (cello), Ainsley Murray (violin) and Charmaine Keay (violin) who helped make it a very fun and highly effective session.

KBB Festival, Auckland School’s Jazz Festival and Stand Up Stand Out (SUSO) are also just around the corner, starting the week beginning Monday 7 August, which kick starts a very busy month of August for the Musicians and Singers at school.  More details to follow.
